There is no easy antidote to take for this poison. But research shows "the mind can be at least as powerful as medicine when to comes to remodeling the brain. Behavioral modification (changing the way people act) and cognitive therapy (changing how they think) can alter the biology of their brains."
By introducing faith-based and other "healthy" suggestions in self-talk and focusing upon new activities, different portions of the brain are engaged, and the "old" pattern of thinking becomes unstuck. Thought patterns can shift out of obsessions or hopelessness. Research further shows that there are actual physical benefits of faith.
Faith. What is it?
Jesus said, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1).
Faith is something unseen. It is an invisible force. Like the power of electricity, we don't often see faith until we take action. We have to turn on the electric switch to see the light bulb work. And beliefs that we have held for many years are similar. We don't often see, and we rarely acknowledge, that the effects of negative beliefs can hamper and possibly destroy our lives. But if people who have a system of religious faith live longer, tend to be happier, feel they are able to buffer negative life events, and are motivated to be healthy and help other people, why are so many people afraid of faith?
What is it you really value? What do you believe?
